(Updated at 11:11) – Monterey County Sheriff’s are conducting an operation in Castroville to crack down on criminal gang activity. The Sheriff’s Office launched the operation following a gang-related incident that occurred in the city over the 4th of July weekend. During a three-day enforcement period, deputies arrested 18 individuals who were either gang members or associates. Wednesday night, law enforcement officers conducted a probation sweep. Searches were conducted at around 16 homes. The sweep resulted in the arrests of four suspects. They were booked into Monterey County jail.
