(08:30) SANTA CRUZ – A transient who has been found guilty of attacking two women in Santa Cruz is expected to be released from jail this week. The attack took place on Beach Street in July 2013. Officials say 27-year-old Joey Patino Hernandez chased the two women and attempted to sexually assault one of the victims. During his time in custody, Hernandez was diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental health problems at Atascadero State Hospital. On Wednesday, Hernandez was ordered to register as a sex offender and sentenced to 4 years in prison. However, the months he spent at Atascadero State Hospital combined with the time he spent in jail equates to 4 years served. He will be released from jail without a place to live or family support.
