(09:12) SANTA CRUZ – The Santa Cruz Police Department has released a statistical overview of the 4th of July weekend, revealing an overall increase in calls for service, arrests and citations compared to last year. Officers responded to nearly 600 calls for service in the 24 hour period of July 4th. A majority of the calls were related to illegal fireworks possession and alcohol related violations. A total of over 130 citations were issued, which is a 101 percent increase over reported 2014 numbers. All available personnel were in service and used by the police department. In addition, First Alarm Security Guards assisted with road closures and security patrols in the Seabright and Westside neighborhoods. (S.G.)
