(UPDATE) June 17, 2015: Victim of Fatal 6-Car Crash in Hollister Identified

(Updated at 07:27) – The CHP has released new information on a 6-vehicle crash in Hollister that killed one man and injured nine others on Monday. The incident occurred on Highway 25 near Shore Road at around 5:30 p.m. Officials say a semi-truck driver failed to slow down for traffic, lost control, and rear-ended a Ford, causing a chain-reaction. The Ford was pushed into five others cars, including a Honda Accord. The driver of the Honda, 33-year-old Omar Carino Mendez, was declared dead at the scene. Three others were airlifted to Bay Area trauma centers. The semi-truck driver, 34-year-old Mandeep Mangat of Fresno, was uninjured. The crash closed down the roadway for eight hours.

(07:04) HOLLISTER – A man was killed and nine people injured in a crash between Hollister and Gilroy on Monday. The incident occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Highway 25 near Shore Road. The crash involved six vehicles, including a semi-truck. One driver was declared dead at the scene and at least two others were airlifted to Bay Area trauma centers. The semi-truck driver was uninjured. CHP officers closed down the roadway and began diverting traffic at Bolsa Road. The incident is under investigation. (S.G.)
