June 11, 2015: Castro Adobe State Historic Park to Open

(08:39) LARKIN VALLEY – A newly designated state park near Watsonville will be open to the public this weekend. The Castro Adobe was built by Juan Jose Castro and was completed in 1850. It is the only remaining building of the Ranchero era in the Pajaro Valley. Local historians call it the finest example of Rancho Hacienda in the Monterey Bay area. On the surrounding land, the Castro family raised cattle for trading hides, and producing tallow. Visitors will be able to tour the property, talk with volunteers about the restoration process and enjoy handmade tortillas. The Castro Adobe State Historic park is off of Larkin Valley Road and will be open on Friday and Saturday from 11 to 3 p.m. It will also be open on July 10th and 11th, and August 14th and 15th.
