June 8, 2015: Fire Ring Program at Carmel Beach Delayed

(07:46) CARMEL – A pilot program aiming to preserve Carmel Beach has been delayed. In February, the city council approved a one-year program that would install over two dozen fire rings on the beach. Officials say the rings would control air quality and prevent black charcoal from turning the white sand to gray. A Carmel resident has recently filed an appeal with the California Coastal Commission, seeking to prohibit fires altogether. At this time, it is unknown when the Coastal Commission will make a decision. (S.G.)
