May 31, 2015: Algae Toxins May Impact Marine Life

(16:19) MONTEREY BAY– A toxic algae bloom may prove deadly for central coast marine life. Marine researchers from UCSC say that a type of algae that releases domoic acid during blooming may affect local marine life populations. The algae bloom also know as the Red Tide is found from Washington to Santa Barbara and so far this year sensors in the Monterey Bay have detected the highest levels of toxins since 2009. Recent reports of dead seabirds may be the start of wildlife die off related to the bloom.
