Monterey County Jail officials have identified the inmate who committed suicide this week. 52-year-old Sandra Vela was found unresponsive at about 2 a.m. in her single-person cell Monday night. The security guards attempted to save Vela’s life, but she died from her injuries where she was found. An autopsy was performed Wednesday, but her cause of death is not yet known.
