The Santa Cruz County planning department will be hosting a meeting for public comment tomorrow regarding construction of a new cell tower. Verizon Wireless is seeking to construct a 65 foot tall cell tower disguised as a water tank, just north of Watsonville. The proposed site is on Melody Lane off Green Valley Road, and the land is currently zoned for commercial Ag. This requires a Commercial Development Permit and a Federal Telecom Act Exception because it is located in a “prohibited” area. The meeting is being held tomorrow morning at 9 and will be held at the Board of Supervisors Chambers at 701 Ocean Street, Room 525.
