The names of the 4 people who died in the Sunday night crash in Aptos have been released. The driver of the mercedes was 22 year-old Watsonville resident Arturo Avalos, and his front seat passengers were 18 year-old Watsonville resident Osbaldo Melgoza Ortiz and 19 year-old Teresita Brady. 16 year-old Vanessa Guzman, who was a back seat passenger in the Mercedes was killed, while two 17 year-olds, an 18 year-old, and a 21 year-old were all hospitalized with severe injuries. Many of the occupants of the Mercedes (which was owned by Avalos’ parents) had (or currently did) attend Renaissance High School. None of the people in the Mercedes were wearing seatbelts.
The 56 year-old Aptos man (who was driving the truck the Mercedes hit Sunday night on Freedom Boulevard) was listed in critical condition.
