California’s High-Speed Rail Project Disturbs Kit Fox Habitat, Feds Say- 2/04/15 8:30 S.G.

Federal officials have reported that construction on California’s high-speed rail infringes on the habitat of the protected kit fox. The $68 billion project, which broke ground last month, will run between San Francisco to Los Angeles. Last week, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service sent a letter to the rail administration saying preliminary work has been disturbing kit fox habitat. The rail administration has pledged to compensate by providing additional habitat elsewhere in the Central Valley. The first phase of the rail’s construction is underway on a 142-mile stretch north and south of Fresno.
