Although California made history by being the first state in the nation to ban plastic bags at grocery stores, a freshman lawmaker is now pushing legislation that calls to change and/or repeal that ban. The two pieces of legislation would: repeal the 10 cent fee on paper bags (that is part of the new law) set to go into effect in July; while the other calls for a straight out repeal of the statewide plastic bag ban. In addition to Assemblymember Matthew Harper’s legislation, there is now a referendum effort underway to repeal the statewide plastic bag ban.
