The family of a Salinas man killed during a confrontation with police has filed a civil suit. In May, officers investigating a report of an armed man trying to break into a home found Carlos Mejia armed with garden shears. Mejia was fatally shot by police after tasing failed to subdue him. On Tuesday, Mejia’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit naming the department and the two officers involved in the shooting.
