Medical personnel from Dominican and Palo Alto Medical Foundation are participating in the hospitals’ first-ever training for transgender health care. Both hospitals are aiming to improve sensitivity, trust, and cultural competency towards the transgender community. In a national survey conducted in 2011, many reported discrimination, denial of medical assistance, and a lack of basic transgender health information among medical providers. Both hospitals are seeking to reverse these trends. The program will train doctors, nurses, and other medical providers into February.
