Bill Introduced to End UC Autonomy- 12/08/14 8:00 S.G.

State lawmakers have introduced a bill to end the UC system’s autonomy. The action follows the regents’ recent decision to raise tuition as well as the system’s lack of transparency. The bill would ensure elected officials have the final decision on any proposal made by the UC. The amendment needs two-thirds approval in both the state Senate and the Assembly. If approved, voters could see the measure on the ballot in 2016. The law would end 166 years of UC autonomy.
