CDC Releases New Data on Youth Smoking Rates- 11/14/14 7:00 S.G.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released new data on cigarette smoking among youth. The figures were published in yesterday’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. The data reveals 23 percent of high school students in the U.S. currently use a tobacco product. Over 90 percent of them use combustible products such as cigarettes, cigars, hookahs, and pipes. Health officials say unless youth smoking rates drop, around 5.6 million between ages 0-17 will die early from tobacco-related illness. The implementation of tobacco control programs could help combat the trend.
