Santa Cruz County authorities cited fourteen unlicensed contractors last week. The district attorney’s office has been aware of a number of builders posing as legitimate contractors and set up a sting operation in Aptos. On Wednesday and Thursday investigators contacted seventeen contractors to bid on a phony project. Out of the fourteen citations issued, seven were for misdemeanors. Those that had employees with them also face state workers compensation insurance fraud charges.
