CALIFORNIA HEALTH OFFICIALS HAVE REPORTED SEEING RECORD LEVELS OF MOSQUITOES INFECTED WITH WEST NILE VIRUS. AROUND 180 HUMAN CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THE STATE THIS YEAR. OVER 50 OF THOSE CASES WERE REPORTED LAST WEEK. THE VIRUS IS TRANSMITTED TO HUMANS BY THE BITE OF AN INFECTED MOSQUITO.
