FEDERAL OFFICIALS HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST TWO WATSONVILLE NURSING HOMES ALLEGING ELDER ABUSE AND MEDICARE FRAUD. THE LAWSUIT, FILED BY THE U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE FRIDAY, CLAIMS THE WATSONVILLE NURSING CENTER AND THE WATSONVILLE POST-ACUTE CENTER PERSISTENTLY AND SEVERLY OVERMEDICATE THEIR RESIDENTS. THE COMPLAINT ALSO ALLEGES THE OWNERS, OPERATORS, AND MANAGERS HAVE SUBMITTED FALSE CLAIMS FOR SUBSTANDARD SERVICES PROVIDED TO MEDICARE AND MEDICAID BENEFICIARIES IN BOTH FACILITIES. THE LAWSUIT FOLLOWS AN INVESTIGATION BY THE U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE AND THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES.
