A SANTA CRUZ POLICE OFFICER IS RECOVERING AFTER BEING STABBED BY A MAN LAST NIGHT (MON). OFFICIALS SAY RELATIVES OF 27-YEAR-OLD MICHAEL PAQUETTE CALLED 911 AROUND 6 PM REPORTING HE HAD CUT HIS WRISTS IN A SUICIDE ATTEMPT AND RAN OUT OF THE HOUSE. POLICE FOUND PAQUETTE ON THE 1700 BLOCK OF SOQUEL AVENUE AND ATTEMPTED TO TAKE HIM INTO CUSTODY. THE SUSPECT THEN STABBED ONE OFFICER IN THE LEG AND ATTEMPTED TO STAB A SECOND IN THE FACE. POLICE USED A TASER TO DISARM PAQUETTE. BOTH THE SUSPECT AND THE OFFICER WERE TRANSPORTED TO DOMINICAN HOSPITAL FOR TREATMENT. PAQUETTE WAS LATER BOOKED INTO SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL ON SUSPICION OF ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON AGAINST A POLICE OFFICER.
