ON FRIDAY, THE HALF CENT SALES TAX INCREASE TO ADD A PROJECTED 2.1 MILLION DOLLARS ANNUALLY FOR PUBLIC SAFETY BUDGETS RECEIVED THE TWO THIRDS MAJORITY NEEDED BY A MARGIN OF 25 VOTES. THE FUNDS ARE TO BE USED IN A 60 TO 40 PERCENT SPLIT BETWEEN THE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS. THE TAX WILL EXPIRE IN 7 YEARS.
