2 SALINAS POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN PLACED ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE FOLLOWING A FATAL SHOOTING SATURDAY EVENING. AT AROUND 7:20 P-M PATROL UNITS INVESTIGATING A REPORT OF A MAN CHASING PEOPLE WITH A KNIFE ON THE 8-HUNDRED BLOCK OF ALISAL STREET, ARRIVED ON SCENE TO FIND AN UNCOOPERATIVE, COMBATIVE SUSPECT. WITNESSES SAY WHEN OFFICERS TRIED TO SUBDUE THE SUSPECT WITH A TASER, HE THEN PULLED A KNIFE AND ADVANCED ON AN OFFICER, WHERE UPON 2 OFFICERS RESPONDED WITH GUNFIRE. THE SUSPECT WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. IT IS STANDARD PROCEDURE FOR OFFICERS INVOLVED IN A SHOOTING TO REMAIN ON PAID LEAVE WHILE THE INCIDENT IS INVESTIGATED.
