A SANTA CRUZ RESIDENT WAS HONORED THIS WEEK DURING THE STATE ASSEMBLY’S ANNUAL HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL EVENT. GITTA RYLE, WHO MOVED TO SANTA CRUZ IN 1984, WAS BORN IN AUSTRIA IN THE 1930’S. SHE AND HER SISTER WERE SEPARATED FROM THEIR PARENTS AFTER THEY ALL WENT INTO HIDING DURING THE HOLOCAUST. AFTER THE WAR SHE AND HER SISTER WERE REUNITED WITH THEIR MOTHER, BUT HER FATHER DIED IN A NAZI CONCENTRATION CAMP.
