2 DROUGHT-STARVED RIVERS IN CALIFORNIA HAVE NOW BEEN CLOSED TO ANGLERS, DUE TO CONCERNS ABOUT STEELHEAD TROUT AND SALMON. THE STATE FISH AND GAME COMMISSION VOTED UNANIMOUSLY THIS MORNING TO CLOSE DOWN RECREATIONAL ANGLING ON THE AMERICAN AND RUSSIAN RIVERS THROUGH THE END OF APRIL. EARLIER THIS MONTH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME CLOSED MANY WATERWAYS ON THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN COASTS. THESE DECISIONS WERE MADE BECAUSE THE DWINDLING RESERVOIR STORAGE, AND THE LOW FLOW IN MANY STREAMS AND RIVERS, IS PRESENTING NUMEROUS DANGERS TO THE HABITAT FOR BOTH SPECIES.
