The Land Trust of Santa Cruz County has acquired 10-acres of land to build a safe crossing for wildlife at a stretch of road on Highway-17. The Group started looking into purchasing land around the Laurel Curve area, after research from UC Santa Cruz showed mountain Lions, pumas, deers and other wildlife, were not only endangering their own species but motorists as well. The Land Trust plans on placing an easement for wildlife crossing on the property underneath Highway 17.
