A ceremony commemorating the grand opening of a new Bridge and Rock Shed in Big Sur took place yesterday. Both The Rain Rocks Rock Shed and the Pitkins Curve Bridge were built as a way of preventing road closures by keeping debris dropped by landslides and rockfalls off a certain section of Highway-1. The 300-foot long shed is made of concrete and is a tunnel like structure that stands next to the new quarter-mile-long bridge, which extends from Limekiln Creek Bridge to South of Lucia. The project broke ground in November of 2009.
