THE LOCAL SIERRA CLUB HAS NOW FILED AN APPEAL OVER THE 2ND COASTAL PERMIT APPROVED BY THE SAND CITY CITY COUNCIL. THE FIRST WAS MONTEREY BAY SHORES ECO-RESORT, WHICH CALLED FOR A 161 ROOM HOTEL AND 180 CONDOMINIUMS, AND NOW THE CITY HAS APPROVED THE COLLECTION AT MONTEREY BAY PROJECT, WHICH INCLUDES A 235 ROOM HOTEL AND 105 TIME SHARE UNITS ON 26 ACRES WEST OF HIGHWAY 1. THE VENTANA CHAPTER OF THE SIERRA CLUB CONTENDS THAT BOTH PROJECTS ARE AT ODDS WITH THE CITY’S LOCAL COASTAL PLAN…AND THAT BOTH PLANS PUT THE WESTERN SNOWY PLOVER, AND THE SEACLIFF BUCKWHEAT (AS WELL AS OTHER FLORA AND FAUNA) IN DANGER. 2 OTHER ISSUES TO BE CONSIDERED ARE THE IMPACT ON TRAFFIC, AND THE PUBLIC’S COASTAL ACCESSIBILITY.
