THE C-H-P HAS ANNOUNCED IT IS NEARING THE CONCLUSION OF ITS INVESTIGATION OF THE HIT RUN THAT LEFT A SANTA CRUZ MAN BRAIN DEAD. BACK ON DECEMBER 10TH 36 YEAR OLD MICHAEL SCHAUPP WAS CRITICALLY INJURED WHEN A WOMAN IN AN S-U-V PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF HIS MOTORCYCLE ON HIGHWAY 17. THE WOMAN FLED THE SCENE WHILE SCHAUPP WAS AIRLIFTED TO STANFORD, WHERE HE WAS DECLARED BRAIN DEAD THE NEXT DAY. THE C-H-P’S INVESTIGATION DETERMINED THE SUSPECT DRIVER’S IDENTITY, BUT IS NOT RELEASING HER NAME UNTIL THE COMPLETED REPORT, WITH THE RECOMMENDATION OF FELONY CHARGES FOR HIT AND RUN CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, ARE SUBMITTED TO THE D-A’S OFFICE. MEANWHILE THE FRIENDS OF THE VICTIM WILL BE HOLDING A MEMORIAL THIS SATURDAY AT THE SEYMOUR CENTER FROM NOON TIL 5 IN SANTA CRUZ.
