STARTING IN JANUARY, THE WATSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ALONG WITH NONPROFIT AND SCHOOL LEADERS PLAN TO LAUNCH A 2 YEAR PROGRAM. THE ADELANTE PROGRAM WILL UTILIZE A 380-THOUSAND DOLLAR GRANT FROM THE CALIFORNIA GANG REDUCTION, INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION PROGRAM, AND THE BOARD OF STATE AND COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS. THE PROGRAM WILL BE USED TO REACH OUT TO MORE THAN 50 AT RISK YOUTHS, TO TRY TO BREAK THE PATTERNS THAT LEAD TO GANG INVOLVEMENT.
