Cal-Fire encourages people on the Central Coast to practice good fire safety habits during the holiday season. Officials say most home fires start because of holiday cooking. Cal-fire says:
-Keep children at a safe distance from hot liquids and cooking surfaces
-Have a fire extinguisher near the kitchen
-Don’t store items on the stove top because they could catch fire
-Keep pot handles on the stove pointing towards the back
-Never pour water on a grease fire, instead cover the pan with a lid or close the oven door
-And if your clothing catches fire, stop, drop and roll to smother flames.
