MORE THAN 17 HUNDRED SIGNATURES WERE ON A PETITION THAT WAS FILED THIS WEEK TO RECALL SALINAS CITY COUNCILMAN JOSE CASTANEDA. IF AT LEAST 14 HUNDRED AND 59 OF THOSE SIGNATURES ARE VALID FOR CURRENTLY REGISTERED LOCAL VOTERS, A RECALL ELECTION COULD BE HELD. THE SALINAS CITY CLERK NOW HAS 30 DAYS TO VERIFY THE SIGNATURES, THEREBY DETERMINING IF THERE ARE ENOUGH VALID SIGNATURES TO RECOMMEND THAT THE CITY COUNCIL CALL FOR SUCH AN ELECTION.
