A FIRST TIME EVENT TOOK PLACE THIS WEEKEND IN MARINA. HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE SHOWED UP AT FORT ORD OLD DUNES STATE PARK, TO HONOR AND REMEMBER FALLEN SOLDIERS, AND TO GIVE COMFORT TO THE FAMILIES OF THOSE LOST IN BATTLE. THE COURSE OF THE FIRST-EVER, “ RUN FOR THE FALLEN,” HAD MEMORIALS SET UP ALONG THE WAY TO HONOR THOSE FROM THE CENTRAL COAST, WHO LOST THEIR LIVES WHILE SERVING IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE RACE WILL GO TO THE FORT ORD VETERAN’S CEMETERY. RACE ORGANIZERS SAY THAT APPROXIMATELY 15-THOUSAND DOLLARS WAS RAISED THIS WEEKEND AND SUPPORTERS ARE HOPING FOR AT LEAST 2-POINT-FIVE MILLION IN THE NEAR FUTURE IN ORDER TO GET FEDERAL FUNDING FOR THE CEMETERY.
