A MOTORHOME WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE WHILE PARKED IN A SALINAS STORAGE YARD THIS AFTERNOON. FIRE INVESTIGATORS SAY A MECHANICAL PROBLEMS IN THE ENGINE APPEARED TO BE THE CAUSE OF THE 12:30 P-M BLAZE, WHICH BROKE OUT IN THE EAST BLANCO ROAD STORAGE FACILITY.
THE OWNER OF THE MOTORHOME, WHO THOUGHT ITS BATTERY WAS DEAD, HAD GONE HOME TO GET HIS JUMPER CABLES JUST BEFORE THE FIRE BEGAN. HE RETURNED (WITH HIS CABLES) TO FIND FIREFIGHTERS TRYING TO FINISH PUTTING OUT THE FIRE.
