A VEHICLE RAN INTO A FIRE HYDRANT JUST BEFORE NOON AT THE CORNER OF OCEAN AND WATER STREETS IN SANTA CRUZ MONDAY CAUSING A 60 FOOT GEYSER TO LAUNCH HUNDREDS OF GALLONS OF WATER INTO THE AIR. ACCORDING TO AUTHORITIES, THE ACCIDENT WAS CAUSED WHEN A DISTRACTED DRIVER DID NOT NOTICE THE STOPPED TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF HIM AND HE SWERVED ONTO THE CENTER MEDIAN TO AVOID REAR-ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED AND REPORTS SAY THE WATER DEPARTMENT HAD THE HYDRANT SECURED QUICKLY
