CAMPAIGNERS FOR CANDIDATES FOR A SCHOOL BOARD SEAT IN SALINAS ARE REPORTING THEFTS. SUPPORTERS OF MARICEL CRUZ SAY THAT ABOUT 150 SIGNS HAVE BEEN STOLEN AND SOMETIMES REPLACED WITH SIGNS SUPPORTING THE OPPONENT CORTEZ-GARZA. A SUPPORTER OF THE CORTEZ-GARZA CAMPAIGN SAYS THEY HAVE EXPERIENCED THEFTS AS WELL, WITH CLOSE TO HALF OF THEIR CANDIDATES SIGNS TAKEN. THE SALINAS POLICE DEPARTMENT SAYS THAT TAKING THE SIGNS IS PETTY THEFT, A MISDEMEANOR, PUNISHABLE BY 6 MONTHS IN JAIL AND A 1000 DOLLAR FINE. TRESPASSING CHARGES COULD ALSO APPLY. THE SPECIAL ELECTION WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 5TH.
