A man suspected in the random murder of a Santa Cruz shop owner last year, will be sent back to a state hospital. The decision came yesterday after a Santa Cruz County Superior Court Judge deemed Charles Anthony Edwards the 3rd incompetent to stand trial after being evaluated by two psychologists. Edwards, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, had just been released from a San Francisco state hospital under a clerical error, when he attacked and fatally stabbed 38-year old Shannon Collins in broad day light in May of 2012. Edwards is due back in court on October 30th to decide which state hospital he will be sent to.
