Two families were displaced in Aptos this morning after an early morning blaze destroyed two homes. Five agencies responded to the 2-alarm call on the 3000 block of Redwood Drive just after 1 a.m. Cal Fire reports two homes along with an out-building and two vehicles were lost, while a third residence sustained some fire damage. The fire reportedly spread to nearby vegetation, and burned about one-half acre before being contained at 2:32 a.m. Residents within a two block radius were forced to evacuate. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation. Damages are estimated at $600,000.
