A HOMELESS ADVOCACYGROUP IS PROPOSING A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO PROVIDE SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS IN SANTA CRUZ. THE GROUP CALLED SANTA CRUZ SANCTUARY CAMP IS PUSHING FOR A VILLAGE-STYLE CAMP WITH A SIX-FOOT TALL FENCE. THE GROUP SAYS THE CAMP IS EXPECTED TO COST LESS THAN $50,000 A YEAR. CITY OFFICIALS, HOWEVER, SAY THIS TYPE OF SOLUTION DOESN’T PROVIDE PERMANENT HOUSING FOR THE HOMELESS, WHICH IS THE CORE ISSUE.
