salinas police officers responded to a call of vicious dog attack on the 600 block of terrance street friday night. a resident reported a pit bull had come on to his property, and began mauling his dog around 11 p-m. when police arrived on the scene the resident had stopped the attack by striking the pit bull several times with a hammer. an officer shot the gravely injured pit bull. police are trying to locate the owner of the dog.
