The Santa Cruz City Council will receive a report at their meeting on Tuesday concerning the consistently poor water quality at Cowell State Beach. The beach has been named one of the worst in California as far as bacterial count, which is the result of several factors. Animal, bird and even human waste has leaked onto the beach, much of it from Neary Lagoon. Projects to direct drainage into the proper sewer lines have been moving forward, and increased trash collection has been implemented to decrease pollution on the beach.
