A wanted watsonville man was arrested this morning after leading watsonville police officers on a car chase through a berry field. Officers attempted to stop 28-year-old jose luis Fernandez just after 8 a.m., near freedom boulevard and crestview drive. Fernandez refused to pull over, and drove into a nearby berry field. He attempted to distract officers by placing a 9-1-1 call during the pursuit, reporting a shooting near the scene. The attempt didn’t work, and Fernandez was ultimately subdued with a taser after fleeing his vehicle on foot. He had been wanted for possession of drugs for sale.
