A stolen dump truck led California Highway Patrol and Gilroy Police on a high speed chase through Aromas on Friday. The chase began in Gilroy at 3pm on Friday afternoon. Gilroy Police reported that the dump truck was driving all over the road, and posed a serious threat to other drivers, veering into oncoming traffic several times. The vehicle ended its run at the end of a dirt road on Murphy Hill Crossing. The driver ran from the truck into a wooded area, leaving a passenger behind. The woman in the vehicle claimed not to know the driver, but the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force determined that she does, and they have also identified the driver. The truck theft is thought to be connected to several other trailers and big rigs stolen from the Gilroy area.
