A gas leak in monterey caused authorities to close portions of Fremont street yesterday afternoon. The 1-and-a-quarter-inch gas line was ruptured by a construction crew using a backhoe, at 3:20 p.m. area businesses were evacuated while pg and e crews worked to repair the line. the leak was stopped by 6 p.m. no injuries, illnesses, or fires were reported.
