A couple was arrested yesterday after collaborating to rob a man in Salinas. The 33-year-old victim was filling his gas tank around 12:30pm at a station on the 200 block of Sanborn Road. A woman standing in a motel parking lot next to the gas station began to wave the man over, and he walked over to see what she wanted. When the victim was near the woman, her husband emerged from the motel and robbed him while holding an air-soft gun, taking credit cards, cash, and a few other items. The couple, identified as 33-year-old Leo Castro and 28-year-old Carina Castro, then fled the scene. Police arrived at the motel and were directed to a room where the couple was staying. No one answered at first when they knocked, but eventually two children aged 8 and 10 emerged and said their parents had gone to buy food. Both Leo and Carina Castro were arrested after driving by the motel, and were charged with suspicion of armed robbery, conspiracy, and child endangerment. Their three children were taken into protective custody.
