Even though the overall unemployment rate for Santa Cruz County has dipped below 10% for the first time since 2008, Watsonville unemployment still remains high. The rate dipped down 0.9% in June, but that still leaves unemployment in Watsonville at 21% of the city’s citizens. The number is one of the highest in the state, and that figure could be even greater if those who are not actively seeking employment are factored in. Boulder Creek unemployment was at 11.5% in June, and Santa Cruz was at 8.2%.
