A trial date has been scheduled for the owners of the brookdale inn and spa. Sanjiv and neelam kakkar are facing several felony charges related to insurance fraud. Misdemeanor charges are also expected to be brought, relating to health and safety code violations. the kakkars were held in contempt of court Friday, for failing to bring the building up to code. the 2 are set to go to trial October 9th. The kakkars purchased the (brookdale inn and spa off of highway-9) in 2007. The couple also faced legal troubles in 2009, when a fire that began at the inn ended up destroying 20-homes in the area. several fire code violations were uncovered following the incident.
