A GROUP OF SPECIAL OLYMPIC ATHLETES, AND DOZENS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, JOGGED THEIR WAY THROUGH SANTA CRUZ COUNTY YESTERDAY, RUNNING THE “FLAME OF HOPE” TO THE SPECIAL OLYMPIC GAMES AT U.C. DAVIS. THE TORCH STARTED IT’S RUN IN WATSONVILLE, MOVED THROUGH RIO DEL MAR AND SANTA CRUZ, AND ENDED THE DAY IN SCOTTS VALLEY. THE RUN IS PART OF THE 32ND ANNUAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS NORTHERN CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN, WHERE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS FROM ACROSS CALIFORNIA RUN WITH THE ATHLETES CARRYING THE FLAME OF HOPE. TODAY, THE TORCH IS BEING RUN FROM CUPERTINO TO MILPITAS, AND TOMORROW THE TORCH WILL GO FROM MILPITAS TO FREMONT.
