Watsonville residents may soon face higher utility rates, pending a proposal to the Watsonville City Council by the city’s Public Works and Utilities Department. Public Works and Utilities director David Koch, along with other city staff, will present their outline for the increases at a public hearing of the City Council on Tuesday evening. If approved, the proposed increases will be targeted towards steady growth in solid waste, water and sewer rates until 2017. Monthly rates for garbage container pickup will also increase, the with cost of 32-gallon cans rising 1 to 2 dollars every year until 2017, and even more for larger containers.
