The coastline along Santa cruz has been declared a “world surfing reserve.” It’s just 1 of 4 surfing reserves worldwide. The 7-mile long reserve stretches from natural bridges state beach to opal cliffs. The designation was given by the non-profit save the waves coalition. The recognition was celebrated Saturday with a party hosted by the santa cruz parks department at lighthouse point, which overlooks steamer lane. The designation is meant to protect the coast line against development of piers, docks, or other obstructions.
