a former santa cruz county agricultural commissioner has died. jack simmen led efforts in the 1980’s to battle a fruit fly infestation in santa cruz, and was a founding member of the agricultural history project. simmen held the position of deputy agricultural commissioner for contra costa county for 20 years. jack simmen died arpil 12th at the age of 87.
